Lightening loads

Author

Summary: The author shared a story about carrying a heavy load on a bus and seeing a man reading the Bible, hoping he would offer to help but he didn't. The author reflects on the importance of not being alienated and ignoring those in need, and that we are here to serve and help others. The author reminds us that callousness is not an attribute of God and that we should not wait for the next life but bring others with us on our journey.

A few days ago I urged my co-workers to make a celebration, the main objective was to tell them about the true meaning of Christmas this time of year when everyone celebrates and many do not know what they are celebrating. It also happened to make a mailbox in which everyone would leave messages of love and edification, because although some of them have not yet accepted Christ, they do know what it is through preaching and testimony and already two of these families have been converted, for glory of God.

The day in question I got up and left well loaded for work, because I had a cold salad, the pasta of sandwiches, dishes, the camera, in short, everything weighed enormously. With difficulty I got on the bus and there were no free seats, but I observed a man who was sitting and received a pleasant surprise, he was reading the Bible!

I am very happy whenever I meet a brother, it is a blessing that God gives us and when we identify ourselves we feel that we are in family. I got even closer and stood right next to him, my backpack and the bag I was carrying in my other hand were touching him, but, to my disappointment, he did not look up from the reading. All the way my hands ached and I begged him to at least look at me, I didn't even want him to get up, I just wanted him to help me and ease my heavy load.

At the moment of getting off I touched him on the shoulder and said: -God bless you, my brother, how good it is to read the word of God, but how good it would have been for you to help me and carry my load. He smiled sheepishly and I got off.

Have you ever experienced a similar situation? Have you been the one carrying the load or the one sitting down? Think about it for a moment, to what extent we become alienated and miss the blessing of helping others with their burdens.

It is good to read the word of God, but the world around us has to receive the fruit of studying it. It is good to go down the street listening to praise with headphones on, but we cannot ignore those in need of help. We cannot go through life as if we are not part of it.

Around us there are people with heavier loads than the one I was carrying that day and we cannot be distracted, we are here to help and serve, not to get stuck. We are not of this world, but while we are in it we must shine wherever we are, whether in a bus, our work, school or in our own home.

Callousness is not an attribute of our God, He is available and attentive 24 hours a day, he does not sleep while his children suffer. He takes our burdens and frees us from his weight.

You are not on this earth just to wait for the next one, you are here so that you do not pass alone, but so that you drag a crowd with you. The heavenly abodes are waiting for you, try not to leave empty capacities.
