Summary: The Lord's Prayer asks for everything humans need, which only God can grant. The power does not reside in Satan and his demons. The final place of appeal is at the throne of God. The triumphant affirmation of Jesus at the end of the prayer declares that everything asked for can be granted by God. Christ came to defeat evil and set the hosts of Satan to flee. The kingdom, power, and glory belong to God, which is a projectile of war against the hosts of hell and death. We serve an Almighty Sovereign.

Everything that the Lord's Prayer asks for is founded on a fundamental principle: Only God has the power to grant all the things that human beings need for their well-being. In God resides all the good of the world. He is the only hope for humanity. Ultimately, the power does not reside in Satan and his demons who only know how to kill, steal and destroy.

The last word in the world is not death, or violence, or the exploitative and oppressive power of unjust men. The Supreme Court of the universe, the final place of appeal, is at the throne of God, seat of all power and authority. A word from the Lord of lords, and all the demons of hell must flee in defeat, prevented from weaving their evil web of hunger, sin, hatred, resentment, and wickedness — all of which the Lord's Prayer asks that we be freed.

If the kingdom, power, and glory did not ultimately reside in the hand of God, then there would be no hope for man. That triumphant affirmation of Jesus at the end of his prayer is the main jewel in the crown. It is God's signature on that beautiful document, which declares: “I have the power and authority to fulfill and grant everything you ask of me. In me, not in evil, rest the keys of the universe; and everyone who approaches me to take refuge under my wings will find shelter, protection and provision.

Glory to the Father, who through the death of his Son on the cross destroyed the empire of evil and wrested the keys of hell from Satan! The apostle John declares, "For this the Son of God appeared, to destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3: 8).

Christ came into the world to dismantle the colossal apparatus of evil in the world, to defeat the illegitimate kingdom of darkness, and to set the hosts of Satan to flee. After the cross, creation can breathe again. Hope is once again possible in the world. Evil has already lost its resounding power, and now man has a way to reach the heavenly Supreme Court and present his cause. Through Christ Jesus the illegitimate power over the world has been torn from the hands of the devil and returned to God, to whom it rightfully belongs.

To declare that the kingdom, the power, and the glory belong to God is not a neutral statement in this case. It is a projectile of war that is launched against the very hosts of hell and death. It is equivalent to saying: “The world is not a black hole that irrevocably swallows its creatures and turns life into a futile exercise. There is a benevolent power that governs the universe, more powerful than any demon in hell, and everyone who embraces the lordship of Jesus Christ is safe from the tragedy of the Fall. "

It is good to know that we serve an Almighty Sovereign. It is good to say over and over again: "Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory!"
