Summary: This passage from the Bible tells the story of a woman who was healed by touching the clothes of Jesus. What is interesting is that after she is healed, Jesus asks who touched Him, and the woman confesses to Him what she had done. This dialogue between Jesus and the woman is important because it completes her healing, not just physically but emotionally and spiritually. It shows the contrast between the Old Testament God, who was seen as distant and legalistic, and the New Testament God, who is merciful, compassionate, and willing to deal with us in our crises. It reminds us that God wants us to approach Him confidently, not with fear and trembling, and to be honest and detailed in our prayers. He wants to minister to us at deep levels and touch us in all areas of our lives.
There is one last element in this passage that intrigues me and I think it is very instructive. It says that when the Lord asks who has touched my clothes? and the Lord is looking around Him to see who had done this, in verse 33 it says that: "Then the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done in her, came and fell down before Him and told her all the truth. And the Lord said to her: daughter, your faith has saved you, go in peace and be healed from your scourge. "
That is interesting. That's like a postlude, it's like a final note to this wonderful incident, right? Where the story could have stayed there simply with the healing of the woman and the Lord because he heals her and that's all, and continues on his way to Jairo's house. But the Lord is intrigued and interested in what has happened at this moment, and then he asks who has touched me?
And I imagine that at that moment this woman experienced a moment of terror because she realized how daring that gesture of hers had been, that act that she had carried out. And perhaps he thought: this man is going to condemn me, he is going to condemn me and correct me for what I have done of not asking Him for permission and touching His mantle and perhaps even when He knows that I had an affliction of an issue of blood. he will be offended because I have made him impure. But the Lord reacts in such a generous, so merciful, so paternal and pastoral way that that is what impacts me the most of all that, not that little drama that takes place there.
It is as if the healing of this woman would not have been complete if that dialogue had not taken place between her and the Lord Jesus Christ. It is as if she had been in hiding all her life and there had not been a total healing of her soul, her mind, her emotions. I would not have had that word of impartation from the Lord Jesus Christ.
And I think right now we can see the dramatic contrast between the Old Testament system and the New Testament, the time before Jesus and after Jesus. The perception of God when society only depended on sacrifices and a perception of God as a distant, terrible, legal being in His orientation, and this new vision that the Lord Jesus brings to humanity of a merciful, compassionate, gracious God that he is attentive to the needs of the people and that he is willing to deal with us in our emergency and crisis situations.
This is a clear contrast to the God who now in Christ Jesus, although He has always been merciful and has always acted, I think in the same way, but now we are safe. The Word of God invites us to approach confidently, it says to the Throne of Grace, it is not to the throne of judgment, condemnation but to the Throne of Grace. A God who now through what Christ has done on the cross of Calvary can treat us with great mercy, we can approach Him as a son approaches a father.
So I believe that all that is contained in this fact because when this woman confesses to the Lord what she has done, she says that, fearing and trembling for what had been given inside her, perhaps she expects a censure from the Lord Jesus Christ, but The Lord does not react in that way but tells her: daughter, your faith has saved you.
It also strikes me that she says that she told him the whole truth, she told him the whole truth. In our prayers before the Lord we have to be detailed, we have to present our situations to the Lord in great detail. The Lord wants to know the whole truth about our life. The Lord wants that when we come before Him to ask for something, that in a sense we take time to also expose to Him the gloom around our situation.
Not only, God is not only interested in prayers like this type of machine gun. God likes us to sit down and talk to him like a son talks to a compassionate, understanding parent who wants to advise him and expose him to the elements of his situation. I find that for me the most profitable moments of prayer are those in which I can expose all the details of what I am asking the Father, and in that there is something healing.
This woman receives from the Lord Jesus Christ not only a physical healing that was what most interested her, she never would have thought that she would have the privilege of speaking to the Lord and that He spoke to her. But God wants more than just answering a functional, utilitarian prayer. He wants to go further and touch us in the depths of our being and put His healing in our lives, in our emotions. Because many times the sufferings of life will leave traumas in our lives that God will also need to deal with and minister to us in different dimensions.
It is what we said before, that many times God will take his time to heal us and will wait until we reach the point of greatest need because there is something, there is some benefit that He wants to get out of those times of loneliness and absolute dependence on Him where we We are confronted with ourselves and we learn from ourselves and from Him, that if He had answered us immediately in a very concise way, we would never have learned.
So I think that last part of this wonderful process is a reminder that we have a God who cares about us. He wants to minister to us at very deep levels, He wants to have dialogue with us, and that if we take time to be in front of Him He will also invest His time in blessing us and touching us in all areas of our life.
How wonderful is the Lord. A Christ who heals, saves, baptizes, advises, accompanies us through the crises of life and wants to send us well blessed and ministered. May this Word be a blessing to you as it has been to me, and let us continue to reflect on these wonderful passages.
