Summary: This passage from Mark 5:25-34 tells the story of a woman who takes a superhuman effort and risks to seek the blessing of Jesus Christ. In the culture of her time, she was considered impure and not supposed to be in a crowd contaminating those around her. However, she breaks with the protocols of her time and throws herself in the middle of the crowd to touch the hem of Jesus' robe, knowing she had to do her part in receiving the blessing. This woman's story teaches us that God does not do everything, and there is a part that we too will have to do to receive the blessing. When the effort of the man pregnant with faith meets the blessing of God, that combination makes an atomic bomb that brings the blessing we are looking for. May God wish that each of us can do our part even if we do not feel the desire to do so, knowing that this is what He needs many times to bless us.

This woman is called to a superhuman effort, to take very serious risks when she sets out to seek the blessing of the Lord Jesus Christ. Think that in the culture of her time and in the Hebrew Pharisee religion of her time this woman was considered impure, she was like the menstruating woman who in the Old Testament was considered impure for a time. She was effectively in the same situation and therefore she was not supposed to be in a crowd contaminating those around her effectively.

However, this woman, due to her need, decides to break with the protocols of her time, throw herself in the middle of the crowd, make her way. Can you imagine this crowd closed around Jesus? He says they were squeezing Him. There was a pressing need on the part of that crowd. Christ had power, He had words of life, people were in need, and He had the answer to their needs.

He was going with his disciples, this crowd followed him because they were going to the house of this prominent man named Jairus. And this woman got up with a mission in mind. I imagine that he did everything he could, pushed his way through, pushed the crowd to get to where the Lord Jesus Christ was, and broke the law, because he needed what He could provide for him.

So many times brothers it is important that we pay the price if we want to receive something from the Lord, we have to be diligent, we have to do everything that is on our part. God does not do everything many times, He is glorified when we are enterprising, hard-working and courageous, and we do our part to receive the blessing.

This woman knew that being at home was not going to be enough, she had to do her part as well. And not only that, but she does not ask Jesus for permission to touch her clothes, she does not do perhaps as did other characters of Scripture who appear before Him, or as the blind Bartimaeus shout from afar: Lord, Son on David have mercy on me! for Him to pay attention to. This woman goes beyond all that and approaches as we said, illegitimately almost in one sense and touches the hem of Jesus' robe without asking if she is being disrespectful, if He is going to be upset with her, if he is going to answer that anonymous gesture what she does. She knows she has to do her part in this matter.

And again and again you see in the Scriptures that very important element that God does not do everything. If you have a need there is something that you too will have to do, there is a part that God is glorified in that you carry out as well. If you want to be blessed materially, financially for example, well, do you need a job? You have to knock on doors, you have to undertake things in the name of the Lord, you have to talk to people, you have to read the newspapers. And all that you are doing you have to bathe it in prayer believing that as the apostle Paul says: I sowed, Apollos watered but the growth is given by God.

There is a part that touches us: sowing, touching, collaborating with others. And you do all that knowing that ultimately the bottom line, the bottom line, belongs to God. He is the one who does the final part, the blessing, success is assured by the Lord, growth is assured by the Lord. But your part is also doing your part. And when the effort of the man pregnant with faith meets the blessing of God, the God who wants to bless, that combination makes an atomic bomb that destroys barriers, removes rocks from the road and brings the blessing we are looking for. It is so important that we always understand that. This woman does her part and draws blessing from God.

Another example before finishing that I give you is the case of the friends of the paralyzed man, who when they arrive at the house where Jesus is, they find that the crowd is filling the house, they cannot reach Jesus, they climb on the roof, they break the roof , they do something illegitimate, they break someone's property and lower their friend through the roof, and the Lord moved by their act of faith cannot help but heal this paralyzed man, and says that by their faith He intervened in favor of this man.

You know that the Lord expects our faith to manifest itself through works. That is why the apostle James says that faith without works is dead. It does not necessarily mean works in the sense that they justify us before God if it does not mean works in the sense of our part, doing our part, investing what we have to do so that then the Lord finds something, a deposit on the level of time and of space on the human plane upon which to fall His ray, His power, His energy of healing and provision.

That is the wonderful teaching that this woman gives us as well. She did her part, made her effort, got up early, took risks, pushed her way through the crowd, and that daring act of faith unleashed the wonderful move of Jesus that resulted in her healing. God loves the brave and brave believer. May God wish that each of us can do his part even if we do not feel the desire to do so but knowing that this is what He needs many times to bless us.

May the Lord continue to bless us and please continue sticking to this wonderful passage that still has much to teach us. God bless you, your friend and brother Roberto Miranda says goodbye to you.
